Hello, we're Roe Wolf and Rozanne Azelton, your real
estate professionals in Malibu, California. If you are looking
to buy, sell, relocate or for any other information about real estate in
Malibu or the surrounding areas you've come to the right web site. Please feel
free to browse this site, or contact us with any questions you may have.
With 21 miles of coastline,
Malibu has many beautiful
beaches. In addition to public access ways on many of the private beaches,
there are several popular public beaches.
Early residents included Clara Bow, Ronald Colman,
Bing Crosby, Jack Warner, Gary Cooper and Gloria Swanson. Long before the movie
stars, the residents of this area were Chumash Indians. Artifacts of their
era are displayed in the Malibu Lagoon Museum inside the park. And beside
it is another museum, in effect, the Adamson House, a national historic
site. It is a lovely 1929 Moorish-Spanish Colonial Revival residence which
showcases the lavish use of tiles produced by Malibu Potteries between
1926 and 1932. One exhibit is a 20-foot-long tile replica of a Persian
rug. The pool, adjoining bathhouse, fountains and walkways throughout the
13 acre beach front grounds also are decorated with the ceramic tiles. Los
Angeles City Hall, by the way, has 23 murals made with Malibu tiles.
Malibu is also home to the original
J. Paul Getty Museum now known as the
J. Paul Getty
Villa 17985 Pacific Coast Hwy. When re-opened the J. Paul Getty Villa
is home to an extensive permanent collection of Greek and Roman
antiquities housed in a re-created 1st-century AD Roman country villa with
interior and exterior gardens. John Paul Getty is buried somewhere on the
grounds and it is rumored that his spirit walks the grounds at night. For
reservations or information phone call (310) 440-7300.
Malibu is the home of
PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY
(1937) (Relocated to Malibu in 1971) (2,500 students) 24255 Pacific Coast
Highway (Zip 90263). school of law as well as college of arts, sciences
and letters, cultural arts center and Weisman Museum of Art located on
830-acre campus. Drop a e-note to Mike Zapolski, the Sports Information
Director at Pepperdine University. Mike is always on top of the local
sports scene.
Best surfing
Surfrider Beach next to the
Malibu Pier (23200 PCH), but not for your
first ride. Sure, movie stars Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello were
welcome (well, maybe just Annette), but this beach is for serious surfers
who will be rewarded with orderly, machine perfect waves.
Best all-round beach worth the long drive Zuma (30050 PCH). One of the
finest white sand strands in California, it's more than two miles long,
with an inordinate number of hard bodies. The
surf can be rough.
Malibu Creek
This lovely park nestled in a valley in the middle of
Malibu Canyon has
been a favorite weekend spot of city dwellers for years. Located just 25
miles from downtown Los Angeles, Malibu Creek State Park has over 4,000
acres of hiking, fishing, bird watching, and horseback activities. There
are 15 miles of steamside trails through oak and sycamore woodlands and
chaparral covered slopes. The park was the center of the Chumash Native
American life for centuries and was used to film many outdoor scenes for
DQMW. The most famous being the Honey and Berries Cave from the episode
The Abduction and the "wall" that was used for a mine where Matthew once
worked.
Driving directions to the park are as follows: From The
Valley, take the 101 Freeway to the Las Virgenes - Malibu Canyon Road, go south about 3.5 miles to
the park entrance. From PCH (CA 1) in Malibu, go north on Las Virgenes - Malibu Canyon
Road
about 6 miles to park entrance on your left hand side. You can park in (day-use fee)
or outside of the park. From the last parking lot, ride south to Crags
Road,
marked "Authorized Vehicles Only". There are two other
trailheads in Malibu State Park. 1. - Take 101 north to Liberty Canyon Rd.
Go south 1 mile to Park Vista and park there. This is the trailhead for
Liberty Canyon Trail. 2. - Take Las Virgenes south, turn right on
Mulholland Dr. The Grasslands Trail crosses Mulholland about 1/4 mile from
Las Virgenes. You can park along Mulholland. Call (818) 880-0350 for
Malibu State Park information.
Malibu Lagoon
Best Wildlife: Malibu Lagoon is part of the 169 acre state park. It is a
good place for bird watching, especially migratory models that stop to
rest here in the spring and fall en route to and from Alaska and Central
America. The brackish wetlands are fed by Malibu Creek, which often is
only a trickle, but enough to support a small fishery and an ecosystem of
tiny creatures that attract hungry birds. A little west of the park and
point are the million dollar homes of celebrities behind the gates of
Malibu Colony. The residential enclave was started in 1928 as a hideaway
for film stars. Malibu Lagoon State Beach is located just West of the
Pier, where the Malibu Creek meets the ocean. The Adamson House / Malibu
Lagoon Museum is located here.
